A puck screen is a thick metal-mesh disc sized to the basket; placed on top of the puck it spreads shower-screen water evenly across the bed and curbs puck expansion during pre-infusion. Testing showed a small but consistent extraction increase across brands. The main drawback is fussy cleaning.
